Slugs in greenhouse

Unless the slugs are eating your crops I'd just leave them alone. Failing that you can put down pellets, either organic or not.

Mains water is chlorinated and if the water company are working on the mains you will often find that it really can have a strong chlorine smell.

If as SC says the water company are working in the area they use chlorine to sterilise new pipe work as it gets rid of all the nasty's. However they are supposed to flush it through before returning the main to domestic use. Again this would not usually cause foaming.

Not sure about the water issue but just remove the slugs as you find them...

I'd just remove the slugs as you find them too. Try and keep the greenhouse tidy, as they'll hide under big pots etc.

If practical, just before you go to bed is the best time to check for them.

Solway Cropper,

Had the same problem last year, greenhouse on decking and they where getting through the gaps. This year the greenhouse has more lines of defence than the Israeli border.

Throughly washed and cleaned the greenhouse. Purchased heavy duty black plastic from ebay (�5) stapled over decking, bigger than the actual size of the GH, tacked down with an electric stapler (heavy duty).

Erected GH on top of sheeting, tucked in the flaps under the bottom horizontal poles and using several layers of duct tape sealed all along the gaps and taped the edge of the flaps to the sheeting. Copper tape round every upright part of the frame and the same around the edge of the sealed flaps. Outside the GH, I screwed wooden battens hard up against the edge of the frame to seal any gaps, thought I would make the inside upmarket so lay some off cuts of thick laminate flooring I had in the areas where I walk/stand so as not to rip the plastic sheeting, grey slate effect,...nice and finally at night I close the zip up door and lay a heavy piece of wood six by three flat on the edge of the door and hard up against the frame. I try to keep the inside as uncluttered as possible and so far.. touch wood, not a one. Famous last words....

I am growing in pots inside the greenhouse and I used wood chip for the floor got to say apart from one slug I've not had a problem

getting slugs in my plastic greenhouse too, had to remove a massive snail in top left corner earlier. someone did say to me gonna be lot of snails this year, I have quite a lot here. I `m gonna try what darcy said about using wood chips on floor , i just happen to have some

Stubedo, Thanks for the compliment, as for the slugs, I have applied Nematodes to the rest of the garden on two occasions, the last being last Thursday and they have drastically reduced the number of slugs I have found and despatched. The ones I have found seem less slimy and a bit lethargic, if a slug can be lethargic! Use a cheap grabber intended for the elderly and infirm, thats me then, and drop em in a coffee jar full of salted water. I used to just put the snails in the bin and amuse myself by dropping them to the bottom, wait a week and when they get to the lid, drop them back in again, well gives em something to do, one snail, who I called Gerald, kept this exercise up for three weeks before he went to the landfill site, happy days
