  • Slug stoppin': pinching A pint from pops

Going to have another go at setting booze slug and snail traps. Have tried before, but to no avail. Guess we have some seriously snotty slugs this end of Brummieland.

For the record, I am old enough. I do have parental consent, and have checked as to which pint is available. So, no, I will not be using sparkling Rose. Though i will confess to checking out the fridge to see what speciality beer pops might have had....

If I'm using beer traps Hobbit, I use the cheapest lager I can get and put it in a dish (about the size of half a grapefruit), that gives them plenty of opportunity to get in, drink their fill and stay there.

Put a twig in your beer trap, otherwise you'll be drowning the good guys too. Spiders & beetles fall in them

I've resorted to putting some slug pellets down. I tried without last year and went ok, but this year I am fighting a losing battle. It's amazing how many are out there isn't it - we don't see the half of it. I've collected loads last night and again this morning from my bean tubs at home.

I'm using the slug pellets that are suitable for organic use - with great success. Provided you apply them at the correct rate (i.e. you don't have a blue field!) they really do work.

I've even stayed out for an hour after dark to watch them being eaten

I forgot about a 12 module tray filled with beautifully healthy cabbage plantlets. They were on my potting bench outside. I say 'were' because when I remembered to go and look at them yesterday they have been reduced to stalks by slugs. Is nowhere safe?

Morning, my sweets. Grapefruit, twig, cheap booze. Just got to work out the logistics of nestling into containers. Am off to sainsburys in a bit, and since I'm no conniseur of lager shall locate a cheap one. Was going to half fill a small yogurt pot and nestle into a container. Right, must get up and get Ma to knit a scarf (long story) in Brummieland colours.
