  • Silly Question about Soil ...

Now, I've dug my bed over, added homemade compost: when can I plant my onion sets and 'Spring planting' garlic out?

Soil here is a very claggy, clay soil so is either heavy, clumpy and rather wet, or baked solid and unworkable.

Waiting for a suitably dry, warmish (?) day to get out there and pop em in, but will soil be 'warm' enough at this time of year?

Said it was a silly question!!

If it's too wet, they may just rot. Could you start them off in modules until you are happy with your soil condition.

Aah BM, why didn't I think of that?? But how late can I leave them until final planting out? Ta!

Whilst they are in modules, I can't imagine any urgency as they will have started growing. As for you not thinking of doing it, there is an answer but I'm too much of a gent to even agree with it.............

They do really well in modules, i have had them sat around for months in them, just keep them watered
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them
