The courgette is an experiment - sown early (25th Feb) and kept in the GH. Its Royal Flush F1 and is part of my dabbling with http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...rpy_87567.html Really pleased to see that the first flower is female and that it didn't need to be pollinated to bear fruit.

              OMG

That piccie of the courgette just brought back the nightmare of last year, nine plants and the triffids were producing marrow sized things within a week. Even the guys and gals at work ended up saying 'no more' after they were totally courgetted out by me last year. This year I'm not growing any, taking a rest from them for one year, looks like this year they will be Butternut Squashed out after all 15 of the seeds came up in one week.

And there was me as pleased as punch that my broad beans had flowers. Mind you my garlic has rust so life is still in balance.

My courgette is still living on the kitchen work surface!

What a green clawed little chick you are - well done!

Ooooh, lucky you muddy boots - I only have one butternut squash that germinated out of 5 ..
However, courgettes seem to be perking up now ... think I'd quite like to try a glut, I've never had one before..!

Good stuff -- I always do early sown greenhouse courgettes. Usually get a first crop at the end of May.

VC, just read your link re parthenocarpy - interesting ...! That's something new that I've learned so far, today..! I'd wondered about that thing with getting viable seeds from F1's ...

I have 50+ BNS and ?15 courgettes that grew from out of date seed. If they have such will to live I have to give them a chance, don't I ?

I have an indoor plant that has been sorely neglected for 5 years. It was dumped in a downstairs loo and ignored. It was in a pot that was far too small for it and it was lucky if it ever saw water. To my shame, it was the most abused plant I have ever had.

One day I figured since it had tried so hard to survive, I'd take pity on it. I repotted it, watered it and moved it. It is now dying.

It's my believe there are true martyrs in the plant world also.

                            Assume nothing vc.

Must say I'm glad to of found this forum as you are all funny, knowledgeable and the most helpful bunch I've come across. I'm just another nutter that fits in perfectly with the rest of you.
