    Which is the side shoot...big boy tomato

    Hello.
    My understanding is the side shoot which need removing are the part which come out between the stem and branch of the plant.
    In this photo is the top protruding section a new set of leaves or the parts that will have tomatoes growing on them and the bottom protruding section the side shoot?


    Sorry the photo is now on its side despite being taken correctly

    If you look under the little flowers there's a little bit sticking out between the stem and the branch coming out to the left. That's the bit you need to remove.

    Sorry that its not the clearest explanation I'm not sure how to make it clear but hope you understand what I mean!

      Yes that's understood, so the small multiple stem is the flowers which will become toms the bit below is the side shoot? Thanks

        Yes the little green bell shapes are the flowers forming which will become the tomatoes and anything that forms between the branches and stem are side shoots

          If you leave the side shoots (armpits) a little longer, they grow leaves before flowers. You can either remove these (if it's an indeterminate variety/cordon) or you could grow new plants from them. On determinate/bush varieties, you leave the side shoots on.
