I would just add a little more soil to your pots for now. The soil will then be just under the seed leaves. You can plant a little deeper later on when you pot on.

Some of those pots look fuller than others - don't fill up too much, leave a little space at the top. Well done though, I find basil a bu@@er to grow. They look lovely.

This week I've done the same thing as Scarlet suggested to some of my Basil.
      Location....East Midlands.

I would repot to just below the seed leaves, pinch out the tip, keep the compost a little drier as it looks quite wet.
        Keep them warm.
Feed the soil, not the plants.
        (helps if you have cluckies)

          Thanks for your replies

I will add a little compost and then make sure its slightly drier.

Scarlet : its the first time i have tried basil and they all germinated ,which shocked me tbh as i had heard a lot of negativity.

I feel like I've just realised that I've missed a fundamental aspect of gardening after reading this.

What is meant by planting something deeper?

You take it out of it's pot....and plant it right up to its scrawny little neck in a deeper pot. This encourages the plant to grow more roots and protects it from wind rock etc.

              Particularly useful for tomatoes.
Never do it to cucumbers (they get stemrot).

I cheated, walking round an Aldi they had basil at 69p for a pot, intended to put on a window and then pulled apart for cooking with I suppose.

But at 69p it has just gone into the garden about 30 minutes ago.

Then it will be dead in another 30.
Too clod outside at this time of year and is really a Greenhouse crop
