  • shallots

My shallots have started turning yellow, one or 2 have nealy died back. I have walked around the allotment and most peoples have started to turn yellow at the tips like mine have, is is a big allotment with 120 plots, does anyone have any idea why this happening. I am hoping they make another 4 to 6 weeks as the stems are quite big.

Sounds like lack of water. Onions and shallots are shallow rooted and the top few inches of soil can soon dry out. Still looking at the forecast they will be well watered by the weekend.

          dying shallots

My shallots seem to be dying back, stated with yellow on tip but now some are going yellow rapidly. We are having funny weather down here either hot or cold with winds but very little rain. I have walked around the allotment and most peoples seem to be going yellowat the tips.

          any ideas

            Hi Kitty

            I've merged your 3 threads.

Have you tried digging them up or asking other lottie owners what they think the problem is?
Have you given them a seaweed or root veg feed, or epsom salts - that's what I recommend however this is if there is no white rot. They could just be coming to the end of their life.
