  • Senshyu onions in modules

I've read up other posts about growing onions in modules and I have a question for overwintering Japanese onions. If I was to grow in modules when should I sow and when should the modules be transplanted? The instructions on the packet is for direct sowing and indicates late Aug early September for the South. Usually I would bung them in and hope for the best but I've read if I get it wrong there is a good chance of bolting. Anyone have any experience?

    Thanks!

      Sowing onions in modules....

Evington Hilltop Adventures: Keep those crops coming

You can do it like Piglet Willie has done in his blog, for all onions.

For spring onions, just plant them in their final position in the module clumps. You can do this several times a year and have year round springs.

For non-springs, and overwintering, sow in September, plant them in a nursery bed around November, or leave them in the modules for the winter, outside or in the greenhouse, and plant them in their final position in the spring.

Also, you can sow in the winter/early spring, like this, and put them straight into their final positions for a late summer crop.

      Simple, innit
