  • Seeds in the Fridge?

It suggests in the June Issue of GYO that the best place to keep seeds is in a domestic fridge. Does anyone do this? Mine are in the dark in a nice dry cupboard, but am I doing them a disservice?

That is really weird. I haven't read the magazine but I was thinking about asking that question myself today (having just ordered some more seeds).
The problem with rounded personalities is they don't tesselate.

My grandparents never had a fridge and still grew every kind if veg. so I don't think it is essential. However I have been aware for a number of years that it is recommended that some seeds are best if stored in the fridge as they need the cold period before their dormancy is broken.

I don't, I don't even keep my seeds in the dark and don't have germinations problems really.

Totally unnecessary so long as you keep them dry and cool (out sun etc) then they're good to go

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I keep mine in a large sandwich box in the fridge as I find it easier to just keep them there. Also, I find seeds germinate better once they've been in the fridge. I sowed half a packet of nasturtiums last summer and had zero germination, then sowed the other half a few weeks later and had overnight germination.

Mine wouldn't fit it the fridge not if I wanted to use it for food as well.
