  • Seed sowing, what next???

This might seem like a dumb question, but I've just sown some cabbage seeds into small inch and a half diameter pots. Once the seeds start germinating and the plants start growing, what do I do next?? From what I can gather, the idea is to move the plants to bigger 3inch diameter pots?? Why?? Why not just start the seeds off in 3inch pots and save all the moving around??

It seems a bit early to be sowing cabbage, what variety are they?

What do you mean by the compost turns sour? The variety is greyhound, says on the packet sow feb onwards for indoors sowing.

If the compost is empty (not filled by plant roots) and it gets too wet, it goes off. I believe it's to do with anaerobic activity, but I'm no scientist.
What I do know is, the compost smells really horrible when it goes sour.

Yes, you're right - if you have ideal conditions (lots of light). Don't give them heat, keep them cool.

I don't eat summer cabbages myself - to me they're a winter vegetable
