  • Seed growing tips needed.

I have planted some seeds and put them in a propagater,i soaked the soil well before planting the seeds and then covered with a small amount of soil and put them in my propagater at a temp of 19 degrees, my question is that i am concerned that the soil will dry out with the heat before the seeds have emerged, what watering tips can anybody give me,before the seeds have germinated and up until i move them out into larger pots or plant in my veg patch, many thanks.

I keep a small bottle of tepid water at the side of the prop in case of drying out. Sorry maybe a bit late in your case but I line the bottom of the props with kitchen roll & soak that prior to filling with compost.

Over-watering kills more plants than under-watering.

A piece of capillary matting in the propagator helps. If your prop has a lid the water normally condenses anyway, otherwise you might want to seal the pot in a plastic bag. so as TS says you should rarely have to re-water seeds.

Most large seeds..particularly beans and Curcubits need very little water to germinate anyway...never re-water till they are up.
