Default second year asparagus?

I planted asparagus last year for the first time and am eagerly awaiting this year's crop - but what should I do to encourage it? So far I can only see one tiny weeny shoot. Help me please!!

I also have some 2nd year asparagus and only have tiny shoots showing through on 3 of the 10 plants. I think it is because we have had a very cold spring. If we get some warm weather they should all appear and grow (I hope).

the gardeners world asparagus is not up yet either according to tonights programme - CK reckons its because its a cold spring - mine is first year only 6 out of 9 plants have produced shoots but have not given up on the rest just yet....

Ours isn't up yet either.
Remember you shouldn't take any this year though- ( well maybe ONE at a push)
it will reward you better next year for leaving it to become established.
This is my year 3 for my purple asparagus........YEY!!!!!!!

I planted six crowns last year but nothing is showing yet this year. They didn't do an awful lot last year either but I did see a shoot from each crown. Hope they appear soon or they will have to come out and start over. Nice to know that other people have no-shows at the moment too - gives me hope.
