    Do the Happy Dance!

I've just found some on my St George on the plot none on White Lady in the garden yet though

I picked a load of White Lady last night, sliced and did an overnight salting and had them for lunch with noodles - and had another load for tea. Bearing in mind the germination was appalling on them, I'm more than happy with the result. Loads of flowers on them as well.

I tried growing White Lady last year but the slugs ate them but somehow they left Scarlet Emperor alone, not sure why though.

I only have few borlotti beans left. Lot of them were eaten by slugs and a lot of them didn't germinate due to the heavy rain. So I think I will do a try next year ( and maybe a root trainer will be a nice Xmas present
Well done Bren. But we want see the pic.

Mine too Bren. I had no beans at all last year and very few the year before, but it's looking good for this year thank goodness.

Hoping to start munching our Scarlet Emporer beans next week - they'll be small but (I hope!) perfectly tasty!

Just wondering what size people let them get to before picking as I've never grown them before?

I found they were still quite small when I went away for a few days at the weekend and assumed I would have a couple of weeks to wait. When I got back Wednesay evening they seemed to have had quite a spurt of growth so I picked a handful that had grown to about 8 inches. There are now quite a few more like this.

I start eating mine at about 5inch only because I'm impatient others I leave until they're longer but not too long that they go tough.
Then towards the end I leave some beans on until they go crispy that way I have seed for next year and some beans to use stews.
