              They can also be referred to as green onions.

                Indeed we do.

                Lovely mixed in with mashed potatoes + loads of butter = that's called 'champ' by the way.

                  simmer scallions in milk till tender and add all to mashed potatoes with clump of butter

                    Got to be one of the simplest recipes ever! I was raised on the stuff.

                      bet you miss all the big town excitement from you left lol
                      i,m from shankill street and only ever left on holidays,real stick in the mud.
                      but growing your own veg here,like most places i believe,has really took off.SCALLIONS being a real favourite.
                      never be afraid to ask because a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

                          Scallions in Jamaica too. Although if I buy scallions from a Caribbean grocer they do taste different somehow.

                            I was only about 5 mins away in Merrion Drive. Had an uncle in Magheralin who grew tatties and even had a goat at one point - scary thing it was too!

                            Syboes is what my GF's mum calls them - never seen it written down though - I would never have reaslised it was the same word!
