  • Scaffolding boards/planks for making 'raised' bed...

Anyone out there who can recommend where a good supplier of the above can be found?
Have googled it and wickes have some nice looking ones - they're £15.99 each for 38 x 225 x 3000 plus delivery.
Any other places/ideas welcome. Oh, will need to be delivered too. Ta!

We are using cheapo decking. We got it from wickes when it was on offer but B&Q have similar. Works out quite good value.

Check your local scaffolding companies. Up here they sell old scaffold boards for a pound a pop!

Obviously you need to provide your own transport... although they might deliver if you buy enough and you're local?

I have found that decking timber outlasts any other wood used for raised beds.

Scaffolding companies have to get rid of boards with splits and cracks in and i beleive have to get rid of boards after a certain time span even if they look fine so a quick call around your local scaffold companies will probably throw something up...

Or ask on your local Freecycle

MR LD has had several loads from a scaffolding place, free for collection,as they are often glad to get rid,i now have to cherish every one we got left.
Another idea may use concrete edging,it will never rot,but may wobble a bit, does it have to have an edging.
sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these

LD, I really wanted to use them to form the area of my 'beds', so I can create paths around my growing area to avoid the need to tread on the soil. So, yes, really I'm needing it to form an edging. I've looked at those log-roll thingies, but they're a nightmare to put in straight and found they rot quickly ... So thought scaffolding boards would be sturdier and give more shape and proper definition to my growing areas :

Fully understand lass, scaffold boards do rot,you maybe get 5 years give or take, thats the system i have at present,BUT,when they need replacing,i will simply use the area the frame work was in,still no need to walk on the growing area, down the lottie i got false grass paths,at home i got slabs,it all boils down to what you can get hold off, money to spend, and muscles to do the job

                        LD, ta me duck!
Was only thinking of using some 'edging' to stop soil from 'beds' spilling over onto paths! Was planning on using some stones/slatey bits with membrane underneath, to form paths. Waddaya think???
Also it'd be a lot less labour intensive and cost a lot less too!!!

                          Hmmmm, good to know.
I would have gone for the decking option also ( mainly cosmetic) but hard to turn down scaffold at a pound a board.
