Scabs on potato ??

    Scabs on potato ??

    Hi Grapes
    I have just been given some Potato by a friend and after washing, some of them have alot of scabs on them
    Any ideas what it is and are will they be ok to eat once peeled

    My earlies were all like that. Just peel and they'll be lovely. Only downer is you end up removing a bit more of the spud.

      Its scab something that lives in the ground, it runs through the ground hits the spud the spud makes a scab, it can be controlled by reducing the Ph of the soil I have used sulpher for this purpose but have had difficulty in getting hold of any this year something about problems at chempak

          I believe that recently manured ground will also give rise to an increased likelihood of scab. The potatoes are still usable and often when on first earlies the potatoes can still be scraped and the scabby bit will just scrape off.
