Runners on Strawberry plants

Hi Soph - I saw a program that showed someone waiting until there were two leaf junctions on the runners, they then placed the runner over two small pots (leaving the runner attached to the main plant) and pinned the leaf junctions to the top of the compost.

They then left them for five or six weeks to root, then snipped them off the runner.

I don't let any runners develop on first year plants. It saps their strength. The second year I let one plant root on each runner, but I only let the runners develop on the strongest plants. That way you will get better babies. Year three I remove all the runners and then destroy the original plants.

When it's rooted, yes.
