  • Runner beans

This year I planted runner beans in pots along the fence they seem to be doing really well with lots of little red flowers and a few small beans already beginning to form.
However, this morning whilst checking all my plants as I do every morning I noticed 2 or 3 blue flowers on the lower part of the runner bean. The flowers are very similar to the flowers of the Morning Glory climber so I checked to see if there were 2 plants growing in the pot and found only 1 stalk coming from the soil.

Is this normal? Has anyone heard of this before?

    Thanks
    Dave

No, I haven't. Are you absolutely sure there's no other plant growing up your beans? The root may not be in the pot, but morning glory climbs and twines just like runner beans do and may be coming from quite a distance away.
