    Rotting peppers

    i have grown some peppers from seed I saved from supermarket ones. They are in my conservatory. Healthy plants with lots of green peppers already. However as soon as they start to turn red the peppers start rotting, not from the very bottom but from about an inch up from the bottom of the fruit. Any ideas anyone?

    Look carefully, have you got any caterpillar damage? They are often alive and well and living in the peppers.

      Cut one open -can't see any caterpillars. There were some little green ones on the leaves earlier on in the season which I picked off.

        If there are no holes,it might be where the peppers changing colour from green,it can go a bit black,then red,keep an eye on it for a bit longer? If it's still firm it should be alright?

          It's not firm - it's soggy and horrible!

            Have a look at these pictures, I am pretty sure it is Blossom end rot can you post a picture?

              Oh thanks Hubbard. I think it must be that. I thought I was being careful with the watering and they ALL seem to have got it but maybe later fruits will escape it? Thanks anyway.

                I have read if you bake egg shells (just enough to dry the membrane and kill bacteria) and crush them into the soil that it will prevent BER.
