  • Rocket problem

I'm hoping someone can tell me what is eating my rocket. It looks like all the leaves have been stabbed repeatedly with a pin!

Same as above. Flea beetle. They're ok to eat though, if they're any decent size.

Because the flea beetle and I both love rocket so much I have resigned myself to growing my rocket in a window box this year - I hope they can't jump that high! It will also mean I have rocket close to hand whenever I want some.

Last year I tried growing my rocket in a trough a metre off the ground in the hope it would deter flea beetle.

Didn't work and we were inundated last year, I remember hearing it may be due to oil seed rape being planted in the field next to us, this year we've got grass, so here's hoping.

That blows that theory, then, Womble!
Never mind - I haven't seen flea beetle in the garden but I definitely have it on the lottie!

Never had any success with rocket at my old garden because of flee beetle. I could grow it here - odd isn't it - only Himself has declare that he hates it!

I was planning to put all my brassica seedlings in a big box and cover it with enviromesh.
I haven't done it yet, but y'know I'm still planning to

I think rocket would grow well in it also, but I'm still planning to plant out my first few plants in the ground. Eternal optimism and all that....

I chop it up small and throw it into the salad, so no one can complain

I've never been able to grow rocket in spring because of flea beetle, it gets so badly hit that it doesn't grow away.
As a result I started sowing at end of summer - it doesn't get flea beetle damage then.
I get a good crop into the autumn then some right through winter. Even this winter it was hit by the snow but recovered by March to give many more pickings.
I leave some to flower now, the bees love it then it self seeds and I get plenty of free seedlings at the end of summer. Haven't bought any seed for about 6 years,
I also treat land cress and lambs lettuce the same way with equally good results
