  • Rock Mulch?

    Hi guys.

I was looking at mulches for my raised bed and came across this idea. I thought it looked rather cool and would work in keeping down the weeds. What do you think?

Not a bad idea but I think it was end up like paving slabs etc and you will get weeds between the stones and it will be a pig to get them out properly.
I suppose one bonus earlier in the year they will store up heat in the stones during the day and radiate it out at night?

Not sure the pebbles in the photo will make much of an impact on the weeds - although they do look attractive. In general they will keep down the weeds, help warm the soil and reduce evaporation but the advantages usually fall down the first time it comes to weeding the area - with big pebbles it's probably easiest to remove and replace, plus they provide good cover for slugs.

I could imagine you could put newspaper down and then put rocks on top? Would that get rid of most weeds?

that could be a good idea... plus is a better place for slug to hide and that mean as well easy to get rid of them.. just turn them around in the morning to kill them... plus a friend of mine in italy where is not raining that much he use to put big stone underneath the tomato plants so night time they give extra heat but while they cool down they make condensate the humidity of the air giving extra moisture to the plants ( this is not our case considered that at least once a week is raining..
