I am going to try the no dig method this year. It is suposed to be better for the eco system of the soil or is it just that I am a lazy........

I tend to start digging with my back facing the area which needs to be dug this way I can see the progress I am making and not have to think about the amount of digging there is left to do. seems to work for me.

I dig right to left, and then left to right working my way back,,,then right to left etc- like a continuous serpentine.
( well- you've got to have something to look forward to!!!!)

You have to loose sight of the shore sometimes to cross new oceans

I favour the serpentine method too

And I dig with my back to the sun (on bright days) - warms me up nicely and keeps the sun out of my eyes.

Once my new plot is dug over I'll be adopting the no dig system - clearing beds in the autumn and covering them over the winter.

Another serpent here. Just seems easier than walking all the way back to start the next row!

Same here - dig from front to back, which means I'm throwing the earth forward slightly and can see it to fish the weed roots out, and also have my back to the work that is still to be done... And I work right-to-left, then left-to-right - as Flum says, no need to walk to the other end of the row to start again

I do the serpent way as well. Some times when I start getting a bit bored Ill dig a double or triple row in one go just to break up the boredom.

Serpentine as it just seemed the most obvious way to do it to me. Never really thought about it until now but after this year I should have all my beds fully dug so will be able to be non-dig after this.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
