    just a quick question - can these be grown in pots/tubs? would love to grow both but rapidly running out of space thanks

    I'd say you'd be pushing it. Things with top growth are fine in tubs - salads, peas, beans etc. I would think asparagus and rhubarb need more root run and heavier feeding (esp rhubarb) than you can do in a pot. You really need to top-dress your rhubarb with some good well rotted manure or home-made compost every year.
