  • Reusing empty compost bags

This is just an idea but just wondering if this would work. I have empty compost bags, had to buy this year as just started growing and didn't have any around.

I also have too many tomato plants and will be running out of pots/space in the ground for them.

Can I fill up a compost bag with soil (it's clay) and compost then grow the plants in there? I could lean it against some bamboo to stake them up?

Is that a stupid idea and should I go and invest in some pots or is it worth a try?

Do not see why not just make sure you have some drainage hole's in the base .
If you put the stakes in the mixture when you plant the toms you will not damage the roots..jacob

Every year I do as you describe.

But then I was raised in Scotland :-)

Compost bags are great for making mini pots or liners for baskets. You could make squareish pots and sit along a wall. Add some drainage layer and some water retaining crystals.
