| I currently have a wee tiny garden/yard with loads of different vegetables in pots. Including the purple brussel sprouts we got from the magazine. An allotment place has come up YAY!!( my first one) and I didn't know if they will move okay? they are curently in grow bags and pots. Any advice please |

| I agree with SR...leave in pots as they may be shocked by change in pH etc If really pushed, transplant and water/feed well - the more soil the better when relocating. We moved from clay to peat ( more like sulphuric acid!!) and everything survived possibly because each plant had a huge clump of soil from their previous site. May be a good idea just to prepare the new site and enjoy your veg garden for this year??? Next month is the perfect time for planting out fruit bushes and trees on your new plot. Enjoy your new allotment..was the best thing we ever did!!! PS want any courgette/marrows or french beans??????!! Last edited by Nicos; 14-08-2006 at 08:24 PM. |

| Congratulations on the Allotment. I agree with the above as well. WHy bother moving them if they are happy. Instead you can make a real good job of preparing for next years crops plus plant some stuff to over winter Autumn Onions, Broad beans Maybe some peas if you have some cloches. Have you looked at the new plot yet I wonder? If not go up armed with Notebook, Pencil (doesn't smudge in the rain like a pen) Tape measure & Camera then you can take loads of foto's of things that maybe you'll want to keep (fruit bushes greenhouses etc) Try and see which way it faces (you dont need a compass but it helps - Sun rises in the East & sets In the West) And measure it up so you can make a scale plan of everything it helps that way you'll only plant stuff once and it won't be in the wrong place.
