  • Re-use old Compost

    Evening everyone,

I have a couple of pots with last years soil/compost in them. They had Basil growing in them. My question is, can I reuse the compost, or even dig it in the borders in the garden?

Or would it be best just to get rid of it?
    Many thanks

Empty out onto a bin bag or something, check no weevels or other nasties are in there. If ok then either put on beds as mulch,or around fruit trees. Also I mix half used compost with some new, fill tub or bucket and grow carrots in them.

My spent compost always goes on my beds, providing the plants in it previously were healthy. I have clay soil so the added organic matter is good for the structure of the soil even if it doesn't have much nutrition!

My stuff goes in the compost bin but I think I'll be using it on the garden from now on.

Compost from my 'used' pots always ends up as mulch on my borders - as I am clay worthy of a contract from Denby Pottery it makes sense

I always mix mine with my kitchen compost instead of layers soil, It all ends up back in the garden eventually
