  • Raised bed over a tree stump

Hi all, some advice would be appreciated before I start building this... I plan to put a new bed in but the spot i'm think about has a small tree stump there (approx 6" in diameter and 2" above ground level) - can you see it causing problems for my beds? Anyone done anything similar? I reckon the eventual soil level will be approx 30cm minimum above the stump if that makes any odds...

Thanks for any words of advice

Is the tree stump completely dead?

As long as its dead,it would be like a partial Hugelcultur raised bed....., stick some more wood in the raised bed and fill over it and it would be Hugelcultur

thanks for the replies.. the tree is definitely dead, no sign at all of shoots from the stump and to be honest, looked like it was heading that way before i cut it down.

so no reason to hold back then... thats good news, i just didn't want to get it built and have problems growing things in it!

        thanks

If you do not know what it died of, dig it up--dig it up anyway, as it will make a nice home for woodlice etc later, who may want to munch on your tasty morsels from time to time.
Feed the soil, not the plants.
