    Quick seed compost question

    So i normally use mpc to sow my seeds but this season ive been using john innes seedling/cutting compost. Question is, as it is really just a medium and has no immense benefit, can it be used again?, or do you just mix it in with mpc to bulk it out or just bung it in the flowerbeds .

    Sorry I'm a bit confused by your question. Are you asking what to do with compost left in a tray after potting seedlings on? I tend to spread it on the flower beds but to be honest there's little left it doesn't make much of a difference. I don't reuse it as I tend to worry about any diseases lurking ready to infect any new seedlings.

      You can use again, i do but most likely will need to feed the new seedling quite early. Seedling do not need much at the beginning.
      I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

        I don't reuse it for seeds in case it's got ungerminated seeds in it. Instead I mix it up with my other used compost, seive it and mix in some bfb, use it for other potting purposes.

            When I used to work in a garden centre the compost from the seed trays was put into sacks which we were allowed to take home. I think if it had been considered reusable they would have reused it, so I always start my seeds in fresh compost and the used seed compost goes in the compost bin.

                To be fair i did not think about small seeds that might have germinated but by the time i have finished if the were going to germinate they would have done

                So what are you going to do?

                  I reuse my seed compost in pots & it's handy to add to potato grow bags too,they take so much compost.
