  • Question about Nantes 2 Carrots

I sowed some Nantes 2 carrot in November last year. And was just wondering how big they get when growing. I am growing them in containers out in the back garden and so far(had a sneaky peak) they look like they are only 5cms long. Is that how big they go or will they go bigger?

It depends a bit on how close together they are planted. I grow nantes fastcrop which are similar, and they grow to various lengths - I once had one that was a good 9 inches long, but about 4-5 inches would be more normal. I find if you try to overwinter them they do grow but they are much smaller, and if you leave them they eventually bolt and get all tough and woody.

Depends on how much water they have too, I find if they're generally damp they don't go as deep as they don't need to search for the water.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Ive just harvested some Nante 5, not sure what the difference are between the various nantes but mine were about 7 or 8 inches and as thick as a finger. My 5 year old daughter can't get enough of them....
