  • Purple tinged cauliflowers

This is my first year growing cauliflowers and this one has developed a purplish tinge round the florets. Has anyone any idea what might be causing it?

there are some purple varieties of cauliflower - violetta is one that i'm growing - any chance yours could be a purple variety or a hybrid??

I don't know the answer but flopsy is having exactly the same experience.

Another grape has the same problem further down the page.

Originally most cauli's were coloured in some way or other and if you let light get to the curd this can happen. Snap the leaves and cover the curd to prevent this happening. a foliar feed may also help.

No idea, apart from what the other have said about covering them. They will still be good to eat.

I thought they did that when they got stressed.....ie too much sun
Bend the leaves down over the heads to protect and blanch them ......

Thank you folks, Not sure how they could get too much sun given the summer we've been having but I will fold the leaves over the remaining ones and see if that helps.
