  • Purple Sprouting - lots of sprouting....

Hi there, first post, with what may be a couple of daft questions, but here goes. I sowed a couple of varieties of PSB last month and they are in my mini 'greenhouse'. Lots of seedlings, about 3-4 inches high, now a bit leggy. They are in two trays and seem to need moving on, but don't look like they'd be able to cope if I plant them out (and the bed isn't free yet, as is home to my not-yet-ready shallots/garlic). So, is it (a) ok to move the strongest to interim containers (b) then ok to plant them where the shallots/garlic will have been, though that won't be till later in the summer? I'm wondering if I just ought to abandon these little babies and start some new ones that will be ready when their bed is ready. Any advice gratefully received!

if you've got big enough containers i'd say go for it.
the fact that they are a bit leggy might be an issue for them, but PSB is normally direct sown outside - that is what is happening with mine, sowing now

if you want an interim, i'd go for something of decent size

I don't have enough room either at this time of year, so I sow them end of May, for planting out in July.

You can put them all in a temporary nursery bed, quite close together. Then transplant them into final position as you get space.

Thanks both, will plant out into temporary bed this weekend. I generally start everything off in a tray/pot as I live in Snail Central....
