Growing Jack of all trades pumpkins - was hoping for a few large ones for Halloween!
I've read to take any extras off leaving just 2 - 3 but at what point do I do this?

I have a few that are this size ...

Also I read about pinching out vines and burying the pinched out end? Anyone else do this or just leave them to it?

I usually wait until they're a decent enough size to see which are the strongest fruits and take off the weaker ones, not far off where yours are now.

I've never heard of burying the ends before though.

You will need to wait until they have been pollinated and wait to see which ones have successfully pollinated. You can increase your chances by doing it yourself. Some may grow for a short while and then suddenly abort. So once you have some growing nicely then you can make your decision of which ones to cull. The fewer you have the bigger they 'should' get (in theory).

As for burying. Pumpkins produce roots under each leaf node. So to encourage the secondary rooting you can bury the vine. More important for growing the giant pumpkins.

      Hopes its of some use.
