  • PSA - Widespread Frost Tomorrow Night

It's looking like there is a risk of widespread frost across much of the country tomorrow night. So get out your fleece, bring in your toms and hide your chilli peppers.

Many of you will have been clever enough to foresee this event, but stupid people in the SE, getting sun burn and enjoying the temperatures in the 20's, have been lulled into a false scene of security over the last week or so. Namely me.

    Any tips?

I shall be casting a fleece over my toms in the greenhouse. Unfortunately a bit limited in what else I can do, as I have too many planted up now. I'll try and bring in some spares in small pots I have, as insurance. Unfortunately it's a bit of a wait and pray scenario.

Guess we are lucky up this way, nothing less than a 6' over night and that will be out in the country, here in town it should be a couple of degrees higher.

It's later on in the week up this way where night time temperatures drop pretty low. Low's of 3 on Thursday night.

The medium range forecasts are curently painting a pretty grim picture for the rest of May. Wednesday night (forecast 2) looks the worst of the week here, but next week we are forecast to pull down a northerly wind straight from the arctic. While it shouldn't be desperately cold in absolute terms, if they are right we are talking daytime temperatures struggling to get above single figures and ground frost possible at night - not what you would expect in mid to late May. This month is being predicted to be the first month with a lower than average overall temperature since last August. Its nothing wildly unusual, but it isn't great.

        Its also annoyingly windy

In these scenarios I am very glad to have the extra boost of the London micro-climate. Nothing below 9C forecast for me so I might just chance the squashes out in the ground. Obviously I will wail and gnash my teeth if I am proved wrong...

Frost possible tomorrow night and later in the week, according to the Meridian forecast, just aired

I always 'beware the Ice Saints' this week so I can bring everything back inside.

Minus 1 forecast here - so it's continuing to fleece the toms in the polytunnel. I've a couple of chillies there too under bell cloches and they are surviving at least

Even 7C can stop tender plants, like beans and courgettes,in their tracks. So it depends what you've got outside - whether you need to worry or not

Just checked round here, nothing that low predicted for us which is good.

On another note, what / where is PSA?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
