  • To propergate or not to propagate???

I placed some kelvedon peas in my propergator on the 19th and i now have good 1 inch green shoots, should peas be germinating that fast or should i not use my propergator???

don't think you need a propagator for peas, I didn't bother for mine (just regular dried peas) but I am growing them for their shoots. They should be okay if you take them out.

I don't use a propagator for ANYTHING - because I haven't got one and everything grows fine without one. Maybe they take a day or two longer - but then, it's VERY early for most crops anyway.

My peas are in root trainers in the cold greenhouse. They can get very leggy if you grow them too warm. The result is that the soft growth is susceptible to very cold weather when you do plant them out - and hungry slugs!

I'm learning so much. I've done exactly the same with my peas this weekend. Did last year too and most of them were eaten! Fab advice.

Only tend to use a propogator for tender crops such as peppers, aubergines, chillies, cucumbers etc. All hardier stuff gets treated really mean.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I hatched my peas in a cold greenhouse and after being frozen solid ( heater ran out of parafin) they have taken about three week to get to half inch tall

I germinated my peas inside (just at room temp) then stuck um out as soon as they showed. Only took a few days - soaked um first too.
