  • Problem with potato stems/foliage

I have just been out to do the watering and half of my potato stems which were upright earlier are at an angle of 45 degrees. It is a bit breezy but not too much, nobody has been near them to flatten them so I don't know why they are not upright anymore.

Should I tie some string around them to keep them upright?

By the way they are in compost bags and flower buckets.

As long as the leaves look healthy, I would leave them to it. Mine have all fallen over from the wind but I still got decent spuds.

Yep, they are all still green but I did find a couple of large snails in one of the bags when I was taking a look at the bottom of the stems.

      The swines!

You're not going to eat the foliage 21 again, so don't worry about it. The potatoes under the ground will be getting on fine.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

            Fingers crossed.

I haven't grown spuds before so we don't know what to expect.

Some of them are Vivaldi from the Thompson and Morgan offer and some are supermarket spuds which went very sprouty (I think they may be Maris Piper).

I planted both lots on the 6th May, do they take about 12 weeks or so before they will be ready?
