Potting up toms

In theory you should be past your last frost date, but that does not preclude wind chill factor, a cold breeze particularly at night can set young plants back quite away, maybe just bring them out in daytime & get them hardened off for a few days before leaving out overnight

Mine are potted up, but they'll stay under cover all summer... However, don't worry! I left lots of rooted cuttings in 3" pots last year in the poly tunnel, rarely watered them, never got around to potting them on, and they grew huge and were really productive! So your plants probably won't suffer from being a bit squished for a while longer

Maybe I'll. wait a few days, thing is we are on 4 floors, so when they are 'potted finally', they go up 4 floors to top balcony, where they did very well last year. I'll pot the largest ones up first and leave them out of the plastic thingy for a few days before transporting them up the stairs!

I've been leaving a few of my tomato (sweet million) plants out in the day. Two older plants have been out all night (right next to the house) a few times. Twice this week they've had to stay indoors all day by the patio door,because of the really strong wind we had.

What size pot would be the final size for bush tomatoes? My 12in plants are currently on the windowsill in 5in pots and I have no more room inside for bigger pots.

When can I move them to my small unheated glass lean to greenhouse? I am in North West England.

Thanks for any advice.

Planted mine into growbags in greenhouse a few days ago, according to the met, here in cardiff night time temperatures won't dip below 10 degrees for at least the next week.

My tomato are in the greenhouse already 1week and more. If getting a bit chilly I just put a fleece on top. And my greenhouse is at the bottom of my garden so more expose then a lean to greenhouse.

Morris's Son's flower buckets are popular for using as the final pot for growing Toms. Or you could cut the bottom off & use them as a collar if planting in a shallow bed. Just fill the collar up with compost as the plant grows.

About half my toms are in the polytunnel now - and I cover them with a fleece every night

Mine have been out in GH for over a month now - ran out of room so risked it for a biscuit - lowest temp has been about 1.8 c.

They seem OK look healthy - same for Cucs etc have even harvested first Cuc

Mine are all outside, spuds, tons, sweetcorn, carrots, lettuces and all. Hoping for the best whilst we are away. Toms are in buckets making it easy to transport them though

I put my tomatoes into their final pots in the cold greenhouse today. The first truss is just starting to flower on each plant. If they had been going outside I'd have hung on for a couple more weeks - maybe start hardening off next week.

Mine too are in their final pots. I used black Morrisons flower buckets. They've been the greenhouse for quite a while now

My outdoor toms are still only about 2 inches high and in rootrainers. We are still getting the odd frost forecast, although last night's forecast 4 turned into 6, which is't too bad.
