    Potatoes

    Whats your favourite 1st early, 2nd early, maincrop, and where do you get the seed potatoes from?
    Are you sticking with suppliers you have used before or trying someone different this year?

    Lady Christl, Charlotte and Desiree ordered from Fothergills with 10 Blue Belles free.

    In previous years I've ordered from Organic Gardening but no Lady Cs in their catalogue this year ;(

          Got mine from T&M this year cos I had a voucher and they had free postage as well. I've gone for Lady Cristl, Charlotte, Blue Danube, Salad Blue, Desiree, Sarpo Mira and Harlequin. That's quite a restrained list for me

          I just posted on Top Tips about J Parker's seed potato range - they're pretty cheap if you're on a budget.

            Rocket and Swift for earlies + Arran Piolet for earlies and main
            Harlequin and Belle de Fontenay both for mid season and some to keep
            Lady Balfour and Roseval for keepers.
            Toluca for blight resistance
            I love my traditional English Cuckoo Marans

              I'm growing Arran Pilot again from my local corn merchant he lets me buy just 12 potatoes to grow in recycling boxes.
              Location....East Midlands.

                Slight change for me this year, Red Duke of York instead of Swift. Then my two favourites Lady C and Picasso.

                They are on order from Marshalls as always.

                    I change mine every year as I like trying something new. This year it is

                    Swift and premier for 1st
                    Belle de F for 2nd
                    Setanta for mains.

                    All from JBA as usual.

                      I love nutty salad potatoes so my fave second early is Anya and main is Pink Firr Apple, I haven't found a first early that I would recommend yet (not tried enough)

                        Charlotte, Amorosa, Mr Little's Yeltolm Gypsy and Kestrel. My 4 staples. Get them from a local nursery or from Potato day.

                        For schools, I get first earlies and some Amorosa for harvesting when they get back in Sept. Last year [feels so good to say that - 2012] someone came in during the summer hols and dug them all up. Yes, one of the teachers.

                            Really presumptious and inconsiderate of another teacher to do that. Could well have been the case that giving the kids the opportunity to harvest the spuds was part of the educational process.

                              Our staple ones are Nicola and Desiree, bought from the allotment shop. Will pop in some Charlotte too. We're going to try our first Potato Day this year, so who knows what strange new wonders we'll discover?
