Can anyone recommend some good potatoes. I like nice big potatoes. Need first/second earlies, maincrop and late main crop. The ones I grew before were utter S**TE!

First early red doy, 2nd early Kestrel, I don't grow maincrop but late maincrop Sarpo Mira(blight resistant) -

Kestrel did really well for me, and look nice too.
I had roosters as my mains, lovely roasties from them - and big jacket flully spuds too.
Next year, it'll be pink fir, charlotte, kestrel and roosters for me!Comment

I second that - for years we used to have 2 or 3 meals a year from the 'volunteers' around the garden. None this year, but maybe next... A lot is down to finding varieties which suit your soil, the same variety grown on different soils,sometimes even different plots on the same site will vary tremendously in size and flavour.
I always grow a few heritage varieties, like shetland black, salad blue etc, but for general use I grow Rocket-First early

I agree with all that has been said above particularly about conditions.
After trying many varieties I settled on Swift first early, Lady Christl which is a first early but I leave in the ground and use as a second early and Picasso for my main crop. They seem to suit the way I grow and give me consistant yields.

I had great success with vivaldi. It was my first growing season and I was over the moon with them. They grew bigger in the ground than in my rubble sacks though.Kaye x
