Is there any harm in using potatoes started from the supermarket, I tried some years ago in garden and they grew. But have been told do not use.

It is always best to use proper seed potatoes, primarily as they are certified disease free and suitable for such use. Many supermarket spuds are imported and could be carrying anything disease wise.

I am a great fan of seeds etc for free but this is one area that I would stick to convention with.
