  • Potatoes without foliage!

I planted some spuds in bags and trugs earlier this year. Half of them have leaves half don't.
I assumed that the ones without leaves had rotted or summat so decided to replant those bags with more spuds.
    Here's one -

    This is what I found

The seed potato was still firm but showing no sign of sending up stems and leaves! I've replanted them to see what happens next.

One bag had a slow worm in it, - so I left it undisturbed.

The moral is - even without foliage, you may still have hidden treasure below ground.

Has anyone come across this before?

Tops maybe frosted to give the illusion of 'no tops'? Just a thought!

We haven't had any real frost here, and the bags are under the trees which keeps the frost away.
I expected to furtle up a stinky squishy seed, instead I found perfect new tatties - and they were delicious Hope the other leafless bags have spuds too

Breed from them you will make a fortune. No leaves means no blight.
My initial reaction is that this is impossible.

I think they're Kestrel spuds, not that that helps

Here's the first trug with leafless spuds.

The row of bags, all planted at the same time - half (not Kestrel) without leaves

All treated equally - no favouritism.

Interesting. If they grow without foliage you may have you winning lottery ticket. Look what happen years ago to the jersey royal.

I'm with you on this one. We either have a miracle on our hands or someone is pulling our leg. I just don't get it... no sun, no energy, no spuds. Surely?
