  • Potatoes ready soon ... what next?

Hi - I'm trying to make better use of my veg beds this year and will soon be harvesting some of my potatoes ............. what can I plant next when there is an empty veg bed?

I shall be sowing purple sprouting broccoli, swiss chard, rocket, spring onions, spinach, coriander. You may get away with turnip and kohlrabi.

You can plant out leeks, and winter cabbage and kale.

My leeks in their modules will be going into the bed whre my charlottes were. I will be putting my spring cabbage, psp, chard & brussels into the bed that my maris pipers are in at the moment.

Ideally you'd have had things waiting in the wings: I've still got brassicas, leeks & squashes to plant out

I've just put leeks and winter cabbage in the space occupied by some early spuds. Today I sowed some calabrese which will go in after more spuds are lifted.

I have got a few sprouts, calabrese and leeks left over from other plantings, so although I'd not planned what would follow the potatoes I seem to have some ready and waiting ... just hope they're willing and able!

Leeks are ideal to follow potatoes - if you haven't sown any by now - too late - get them from the garden centre
