    Potatoes in gro-bags

    Hi guys and gals

    OK, I'm gonna get a load of these but as well as swift I want to plant maincrop Sante. How many plants per bag do you reckon?

    Do you mean the standard grobags that are sold for tomatoes, etc? If so I have to say they won't be deep enough for spuds.

      No they're the potato gro bags from Marshalls Height 18" width 12"

      Even I'm not daft enough for trying them in tomato grow bags

        I think the bags are around 40litres in size.
        If you are wanting potatoes quickly and not too big put 5 Swift in per bag.
        I would put 2/3 Sante in per bag and let them grow bigger as they will take longer to mature.

          Buy a grow bag, cut in half and stand on end, so you have 2 bags, about half full.

          Plant potatoes, down a bit and as they grow keep adding compost on top till you are at the top of the bag.

          Leave to grow to right size and make sure you keep well watered. Most growbags already have drainage holes in them, but if not just cut some slits in the bottom.

          I do Swift this way and it works fine! usually put 4 in each one.

            I usually put 4 early spuds or 3 second early in the Marshalls grow bags. Don't usually grow maincrop at all as I get blight every year. I have put some Charlotte in last week as a can usually keep them frost free in the greenhouse. Am hoping they will be ready by the end of March at the latest.
