    Potatoes.....and the 'f' word....

    oooh no not THAT 'f'' word please ......something far worse!

    Frost! is what I had in mind.

    I warned all the peps I could possibly warn.

    We fleeced our potatoes, much care and time taken in this...and they still got GOT!!! it is not fair it must have got sooo cold, gonna guess maybe -3 or -4 deg!

    They are now brown - mostly.They were about 3" tall....is there any hope?
    They were that well earthed up Egypt would have been proud!

    It must have been really cold with you. You will know in a few days time if there is any new growth as to what damage has been done. When you fleece them you must not let the fleece touch the leaves. You need to create a gap between the potatoes and the fleece to stop the frost touching them.

      Thanks tattieman, I think that could have been where we went wrong - while the fleece was loose it would have touched some of the leaves.... how stupid of me, 25 years of potato growing I have never 'killed' them before (a little tear was shed)
      I will do better by them next year!
      Will check for new growth.... trying not to look, but cant keep away from the plot!...bees (girls) to do tonight so will wear blinkers.
