  • Potato mixup - orla, lime green shoots?

Hi everyone - Got my spuds a bit mixed up at the chitting stage! Does anyone know if Orla has lime green shoots? If not Orla, do you know which potato these might be. The shoots certainly look different to the others!

    Thanks all,
    Fran

I think Orla has a touch of pink at the base of the shoots just to confuse you.

Which other varieties do you have fran? There may be some other characteristics which could identify which is which

Hi Sarah - they could be International Kidney, Sarpo Mira, (or Vales Emerald but I thought I'd planted those!) Eeeek!

The tuber shape and colour should help. Sarpo Mira are red, International Kidney are elongated (somewhat kidney shaped - would you believe). Orla and Vales Emerald are both round and light in colour. There may be a difference in flesh colour which could further refine identification.

Mmmmm - they don't look very pink - no more than the others. If anything they're a palish yellow/green! The pots are smallish and round. I should have some International Kidney, but none of them seem particularly kidney shaped!

Vales Emerald look and taste like King Edwards with pink Eyes....jacob

Perhaps you'll just have to plant them and decide what they are when they've cropped

If they are small, round and yellowish (admittedly going green from the light), it sounds like they are Orla. I grew them last year, IIRC, though I can't remember what colour the shoots were.
