  • potato begginer.....

I have never grown potato's, but as i am now on a budget tightning phase ( 2 holidays and new telly to pay for!!!) i am now very eager to have a go.....

I will be growing in empty compost bags.

First question..... can i use shop bought potato's that have shoots coming from them or do i have to buy seed spuds?

Is it too late to start now?

I know about " earthing up" but just unsure about everything else!! lol

You can grow shop bought potatoes.

If you are growing in a bag/sac, plant in 6-8 inches of compost and as the tops grow keep filling it up until you have 12 feet altogether. Always of course leaving some leaves visible.

Twelve feet? Should that be inches or am I misunderstanding something?
          Today's mistake is tomorrow's compost...

Planted tatties in gro sac at weekend .

            Edzel Blue and Catriona .

            First time growing potatoes.

My parsnips and carrots sown in my raised veggie bed.

Red onions planted ,garlic , salad baskets growing nice.

I have winter cauli and brocoli I planted last year in Autumn but they have been slow.

How about using an old kitchen bin, that's just under 2 foot deep?

And if so, how many potato's or tubars should I add, per bin?

I'm also planning on growing Edzel Blue and also Wilja's

Though all this depends on whether I am moving this year... should know by the beginning of next week. But I can't wait to start growing... hence the questions now.

              Thanks in advance

Go for two or three to a bag/tub. Depending on the type, you should be ready to harvest by June/July/August.

OH and we'll all have to compare how our tatas are growing so take some pic's to show the progress
