pot size for cukes

I have two marketmore cucumber plants in one growbag and they seem to be doing well.

Hi Janeyo, my cucumbers are in 12" pots and they seem to be okay. I have three 8' canes in each pot, one central and one either side pointing outwards. The plants are climbing steadily and I keep weaving string around the canes and tie in. First time for me, so learning with advice on here and trial and error! I don't remember getting any feedback about size of pots, although I do remember asking (I may have just missed the response), so I am hoping that they are big enough to sustain the plants.

Thanks they aren't quite in 12 inch pots so will have a rummage and see what I can find lurking at the back of the shed!

Janeyo, if you could manage to cut the bottom off the pot you could then put it in a black compost bag with soil/compost in it. All mine are like this as I didn't have any big pots (and didn't want the expense!!)
They are all growing great guns - including the melons.

My pots in their final position range from 6-9 inch's. I have been picking cukes for a couple of weeks now. There has been no difference between any of the plants producing or otherwise, regardless of size.

Mine are growing in Asda flower pots and are producing madly and growing taller all the time! I had no idea cucumbers grew to this size.

I assume the Asda pots are the big black ones about 12" across.
I get them from the local garage who sell cut flowers from them.
They usually offer them cheap.
Also useful for herbs etc such as 4 thyme plants etc.
Don't forget to make holes in bottom!

Mine are only in 9" pots but already I have a glut of cucumbers. My only concern is how long they will continue to produce with being in such a small pot. Still they get fed once a week so should be OK.

That's a relief to know they're ok in the 12" pots. Are you other grapes growing them outside up canes or allowing them to trail and if it's up - do the fruits have to be supported or is the plant strong enough to hold them until harvested? I've got my tomatoes in free Asda flower buckets Jimmy, but the cukes are in straightforward plant pots that cost me 95p each before I joined the grapevine and learned a bit of thrift!

cucumbers

I have one cu growing indoors in large pot supported with canes. 3ft tall and no sign of any flowers. Simply says outdoor cucumber on label.
Tried putting out in the plastic coldframe but curls up and wilts. Recovers once indoors again but still no flowers. Help.
Also have couple grown from seed in cold frame which are flowering well.
I have been told possible to grow horizontally with support under the fruits (if there are any) and would like to try this.
Any advice would be wonderful as very new to growing - let alone cucumbers.

Always grow my greenhouse ones in about 10" pots and they're fine. Outside they're in the ground and trained up canes at least partially but spralling a bit too - more an attempt to keep their spread down a bit more than anything else.

Can I re-pot if they are fruiting or is it too late then?

No, OK to repot whenever, it'll like a bit more space / food although be careful or you might knock the flowers off and it's possible that it might stun it for a few days before it takes off again.

Ok thanks, been so hectic here last few days, I haven't had chance to think about my poor plants except for water.
I will get round to it tomrrow hopefully
