  • Poorly garlic

I planted garlic in the garden in February and it's all going yellow and falling over now. This is my first year growing it, and I know it's supposed to fall over when it's ready but surely it can't be ready already? The garlic in the plot next to mine at the lottie is all standing up straight and true. Is it the drought?

Could be the drought, could be something's affected the roots. Either way, once it's gone yellow and fallen over you may as well dig it up and see what you've got.

Give general feed maybe. I fed mine in the spring, March I think it was.

Same's happened to me. They were going great guns in the gh, then I planted them out just before the drought started in March. Even though I've been watering them, they look like goners

Pull one or two of them gently. If they come straight out of the ground, have very short roots, and signs of white fungus / mildew then you have onion white rot. I lost all my garlic and most of my onions last year. The recommendation is not to grow onions, garlic, leeks in affected ground for eight years!! I have tried drenching one of the affected plots with Armillatox and I'll try planting in this ground next year.

This year's garlic is also looking very weak - thin stems, yellowing leaves but well rooted. I suspect it is just the very dry weather.

One of my garlic has done the same although the others look okay so far. Wondering if it is the dry weather and then the strong winds. I've firmed it back in a bit to see what happens, will check it in a few days.
