  • Planting horseradish?

    Hi All
Been a while since I asked a question so here goes. I have bought 2 horseradish roots from dobies but dont know if I can plant now and how much room they will need? Do I have to have a whole bed for horseradish and what space do I need to give between each root? I have tried researching but with mixed opinions some people saying dont plant at all as they will take over the whole plot, thanks in advance for any tips or advice.

They are difficult if not impossible to shift once established. I,d say plant them by a hedgerow, scrap land to the side of the plot, or other forgotten spot...never in your veg beds.

Like mint, Horseradish is very invasive and difficult to get rid of once established. How about growing them in some big pots?

I did this, then moved the pots (must have snapped the roots that had escaped from the drainage holes) and lo and behold the horseradidh grew where the pot had stood!

I was looking at planting in pots (if you search you will find my post from about a month ago) but was put off the idea due to how vigourous the plant is. Am now going to plant my thongs up the top end of the plot in an otherwise unused corner.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

How big and deep would the pots need to be?

I've got mine in a pot that's about 60cm across and quite deep. I've heard of some people using a dustbin.

Thanks I have a very large deep pot so will use that, going by what people have said I will sit said pot on paving slab!
