  • Planting garlic and onions

    i've never done my own garlic and onions and i have brought some onion sets and also i were given some and i was wondring how to start them off

    as for my garlic too how do i start doing that i have brought 3 bulbs

    what do i do next?

    Garlic,split into cloves and plant just under the surface.Onions plant just under surface,both will require warmer soil than we have now so wait a month at least ,unless you cover with cloches.Blackbirds tend to pull then up when digging for worms so a cover with fleece will help until established.

      They are a doddle!
      Both can be planted now, but I have found that March probably gives just as good results if you have missed the Autumn planting.

      The tip that has had the most favourable comments is the planting of onion sets next to each other. It works so well that it iss worth planting a whole pack of 100+ bulbs as well as the usual ones.
