  • Planting on celery

I have got eight celery plants which are about 10 cm tall in a small seed tray. They appear to be ready to be potted on. I'm thinking I should pot them into 9cm pots and start to harden them off during the day ready for planting out in a few weeks but basically this is just guess work on my part and would appreciate advice from someone who knows what they are doing!
    Thanks

I've never grown celery so I'm watching this with bated breath! We are a family of four, 3 are celery lovers so this could be a winner. Ali

I plant out straight from buying them as seedlings/baby plants. I can't be bothered to raise them from seed because it's so fiddly, having said that, I uisually do with celeriac.
Ok, back to celery. If you've raised them yourself and indoors, harden off and plant out. I usually stick a big cardboard tube round mine, to try and keep off the leaf miners and the celery munchers [sometimes it works] like this

also, they are heavy feeders and really need a lot of water, think bog conditions...

At 10 cm they're about ready to go in their final positions. I grow celery from seed (yes, it is fiddly) and prick out the young seedlings into three inch pots of MPC where they stay till ready to go out.

Mine are still teeny, will be pricking them out for the first time tomorrow if I have the time

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
